Sure, I like those things about teaching.
But I’m going to be honest… pragmatism had a lot to do with my decision to become a teacher. I was married and we already had one child. We knew we wanted more. My wife’s career was taking off. I hated my career and I was working 50+ hours per week, and those hours varied every week. I needed a stable job with normal working hours. I’d taught Sunday school before, and I enjoyed it. I worked in special education before, and I enjoyed that too.
So I put all of the pieces together and went back to college to get my Master’s in Teaching.
Now we have three kids, and my schedule always matches my children’s schedule. I’m home with the kids two hours before my wife every day… plenty of time to help them with their homework and make dinner before she gets home.
So really, it’s a lifestyle choice.

I use debates to get students involved in thinking critically about the subject. They usually go to lengths to read and rebut their opponents argument in the hope of winning the debate. See attached as an example. You can also use Social Media to engage them in topics of interest but linking it to the class content. Today's digital natives use this form of communication frequently, so they are usually eager to participate.
