About Xavier
I've been tutoring in English for about eight years, starting in high school and continuing throughout my undergraduate study until now. I have worked with people in AP English Lit classes, people in lower-division and upper-division writing, and I have advised one person in figuring out the scope and focus of their undergraduate honors thesis. People I have tutored have attained good grades, proficiency as readers and writers, and good marks on essays.

I am a graduate from UC Irvine with a B.A. degree in English, and a Minor in French. I primarily work with students at high school or college undergraduate level. In general, I try to push people to develop the sorts of critical reading and analysis skills that will benefit them in not just English classes, but in life as well. Through exposure to rich texts and a bit of theory, and with lots of support, I think students can gain a relative level of autonomy as readers and interpreters of language--in either of the two languages.
Most importantly, I want to make absolutely sure that students have fun digging into texts and seeing what's going on under the surface.
