About Matthew

I have a degree in English from the University of Florida, and my daily work is as a liaison between the Florida Department of Agriculture and firms in the private sphere. I also have a literary novel published with two more on the way.
Being proficient in writing is one of the most rewarding, confidence-inspiring tools that a student can have, because it is the one tool that is used in all other subjects.

About the lesson

Students often fail at writing because they are trapped in an attempt to "do what they are supposed to," rather than convey an actual point to an actual individual. I break that habit by teaching students how to realize what they actually think and put it into their own words, in a way that still conforms to our accepted methods of correspondence. The onus of a sentence is not on the audience to understand it, but on the writer to "prove" what they are saying, just like a lawyer in a debate. I help students both find their inner voice in essay format, and learn to use the English language like a tool for their benefit. My instruction is most suited for high school or college level students.
