About Kaitlin

My name is Kaitlin I am currently in grade 12, I have completed half of my diploma's early and have written two AP exams that have given me marks to give to university. In University I will be going into psychology.

I have four siblings and tutored many friends through exams. I've noticed that everybody has different ways that they like to learn. So that's how I teach! We will first go over what the student likes and dislikes about school, and the subject as well. Then afterwards we will go based off what the student likes best.

However, I find that majority of the time, a student isn't doing well in their classes for an external reason. They don't like the teacher, they aren't enthused about the subject, or they don't know how to properly study for the subject. My objective as a tutor is help the student achieve the best grade that they can, so that the student will eventually not need me anymore.

I personally study with a three part system.
First is the retrieval practice, where we go over what the student can remember purely by memory, no notes or anything of the sort.
Second is recognizing what needs to be improved and what the student is already confident in, and then what comes after is up to the student how based off how they learn. If visually, then we will make a mind map or flash cards, if auditory, we can make up rhymes that relates to the topic, and so on.
Third is recognizing how much the student has accomplished in the amount of time and to take a break to help gather thoughts.

For essays I follow a simple format that works a charm for any essay I've written.
Point, evidence, and explanation are the three parts needed in every paragraph in an essay. The intro, and conclusion paragraphs are no different, just worded differently.

My lesson plan differs on whatever we are focusing on in the moment, but they goes in a simple order.
Objective: further the student into what is wanted to achieve by identifying the best kind of learning for the student.
Testing: test the student on notes that we've made and try and shape it similar to testing in class, but with less stress.
Reflecting: I take notes on what works and what doesn't work for the student and where they seem to struggle.
