About Olutobi

Your child is not struggling because they are not intelligent. They are struggling because nobody has tailored learning to them.

My name is Tobi. I am an English Language and Literature educator with nearly 15 years of experience spanning classroom teaching, school leadership, curriculum design, and private tutoring. I work exclusively with families who take their children's education seriously — and who want results, not just activity.

How I work: Curated Small Groups of Four
I teach in deliberately small groups of exactly four students. I chose this model because, for English Language and Literature specifically, it produces better outcomes than solo tutoring. I will explain why below, because I know this is not what most parents expect, and I want to be completely honest with you about my reasoning.
After years of teaching both formats, I have seen what happens when a capable student sits alone with a tutor week after week. They improve. But I have also seen what happens when four carefully matched students work through a comprehension passage together, challenge each other's interpretations, hear how a peer structures an argument, and receive expert correction in real time. They don't just improve — they develop the kind of independent thinking and linguistic confidence that examiners reward at the highest grade levels.
English is not Mathematics. It is not a subject of one correct answer. It is a subject of evidence, argument, interpretation, and expression — and those skills are sharpened by exposure to other minds, not just one teacher's voice.

Here is what my group model looks like in practice:
Every group of four is carefully assembled. Students are matched by level, by exam track (WAEC or IGCSE), and by the nature of their needs. Your child will be in a room — virtually — with three peers who are at the same level, working toward the same goal.

Sessions are 75 to 90 minutes. Every student receives individual written feedback after each session. Every student gets called on, corrected, and challenged. No one hides at the back. There is no back.

For exam students (WAEC and IGCSE):
I teach students how examiners think — not just what the content is. There is a gap between knowing the material and translating that knowledge into marks. I call this the mark loss gap, and it is the silent reason capable students underperform. In a group setting, this becomes even more powerful: students hear how their peers approach a question, identify where another student's answer lost marks, and learn from that analysis as sharply as they learn from their own. By the time my students sit their papers, they understand the mark scheme, they know how to structure every question type, and they write for full marks — not partial credit.

For younger and non-exam students (Primary to JSS):
A child who cannot read fluently, spell with confidence, or express themselves in writing is carrying a disadvantage that compounds with every school year. In a small group, something remarkable happens: children who feel shame about their reading or spelling in a classroom of thirty feel none of it in a group of four carefully chosen peers at the same level. The social pressure reverses — they begin to take risks with language, try new words, share their writing, because the environment is intimate enough to be safe. I have seen children labelled "not a reader" become enthusiastic writers within six weeks, not because of magic, but because the setting finally made it possible for them to try.

My background:
I hold a degree in English and a PGDE in Education. I have designed curricula, led school departments, trained teachers, and consulted with homeschooling families. I know the Nigerian private school system from the inside. I teach online via Zoom or Google Meet, and I communicate with parents regularly throughout the process.
The first lesson is free. Your child joins a session at no cost so you can see the model in action before you commit to anything. Book it — and let me show you exactly where your child stands and what we are going to do about it.

My teaching style is structured, diagnostic, and always child-centred.
Every new student begins with an honest assessment. Not a formal exam — a conversation and a piece of written work that tells me where the gaps actually are, versus where the parent or school thinks they are. These are often very different things.
From there, I build a personalised learning plan. Every session has a clear objective. Nothing is filler.
For exam students: I use a three-layer method — concept mastery first, then exam technique, then timed practice with structured feedback. I use past WAEC and IGCSE papers extensively. I teach students to read a question the way an examiner wrote it, to identify exactly what is being asked, and to structure their answer accordingly. I do not award effort points in my feedback — I mark as an examiner would, so students understand precisely where they stand.
For younger or struggling students: I use a multi-sensory approach adapted to each child's learning style. For reading, I work systematically through phonics and comprehension skills together — because decoding and understanding must develop in parallel. For spelling, I use pattern-based learning rather than rote memorisation, because patterns stick. For creative writing, I build from sentence level upward — structure first, then voice, then flair.
I communicate with parents regularly. You will always know what was covered, what progress is being made, and what to reinforce at home.
