About Liza

- I'm a UCL Bachelor of Arts student, currently studying Comparative Literature alongside French
- I was homeschooled from the age of 15-17, taking both my GCSEs and A levels independently with the help of one-on-one tuition. I made the choice to leave the traditional education system as I firmly believe in unconventional, creative approaches to learning, which I believe traditional schooling does not provide for all students. However, I also understand the fundamental structures that must be understood and aligned in order to reach academic goals. Having gained admission into my first choice university whilst studying largely independently, I have an understanding of both the nuances of the system, and how to integrate personalised learning into these academic structures.

- At the forefront of my life are all forms of art. In literature, my passion lying in 20th century surrealism, magical realism, and post-modernism. I have also acted in a series of films and plays, and have an interest in the intersections between art forms. A highlight of my time at UCL has been the opportunity to direct and act in an original production. In theatre, I'm interested in the classical Greek plays, particularly the inspiration they have on the contemporary stage. After finishing my studies I am planning to go into a literary career, as well as pursuing my interest in acting.

- Originally from Moscow, I have an international background, and have experience teaching English as a foreign language to Russian students

About the lesson

- I am a tutor who believes in tailoring lessons to students' interests, passions, and learning styles.
- During my lessons I prioritise a balance between curiosity and engagement and effective, structured consolidation of material.
- I do this by going over material and discussing it in depth with the student in a conversational style, therefore reinforcing the needed information through engagement rather than memorisation. I find this method to be particularly important for humanities subjects.
- My lessons are tailored to all A level students, whether they be homeschooled or simply looking for help in improving their understanding of the subject in a non-classroom setting
- I am also familiar with the internal workings of the A level syllabus and examination process, so can give tips on more logistical and structural aspects of essay writing for the humanities.
- I am particularly familiar with the requirements for AQA English Literature and OCR Classics
