About Emilie
I have always loved writing and reading and sharing that passion with others. Even still, I found A-Level and GCSE studies and the pressure around them to be stressful, and I spent the majority of my time studying them developing exam techniques and taking on feedback to develop my essay writing skills. I love art, music and my extensive record collection. I've been writing since I can remember; literary fiction, fantasy, horror, memoir - and I'm always happy to read something new!

I've always been fascinated by English, and when I do manage to get my head out of my books, I'm painting or drawing. I have a love for teaching and my calm, non-judgemental approach to sharing my love for English is something I'm really passionate about. I take an individual approach to teaching and ensure that I understand each student and their needs. I will then go about developing exercises and a workbook for each student to work on areas they might struggle with in our tutoring sessions and outside when they feel they may need help. I will use the free 30 minute session to assess your needs and explain my approach to how I'll be able to help you and provide feedback. I'll also be able to do some sample feedback for you on any paragraph of work you bring to the session and we can go through it together so you have peace of mind that I'm compatible with your learning style. I specialise in exam strategy and improving essay writing, but I'm also able to teach individual texts to students, and my workbooks will really help with understanding these. I graduated with a 9 at GCSE English Literature and Language, an A in an English based EPQ in the history and psychology of the English Language, and an A* in English Literature at A-Level. I am now studying Creative Writing at Oxford University. I have experience tutoring ages 14-19.

Emilie has been fantastic with my daughter. She has already really struggled with interpreting text, and a lot of the subjectivity that comes with English GCSE’s. My daughter was never passionate about English, and probably never will be, but it was lovely to see her come away from her lessons with Emilie full of excitement when she could understand something a bit better than before. Emilie has always been so polite and caring towards my daughter, not to mention patient! My prices are competitive and include the workbook mentioned in the description. If you require a specific text to be taught thoroughly, I'd recommend booking a pack of sessions so I can better plan for our time together and how much of the text we'd need to get through in a session. I use the first free 30 minutes as a sample of my teaching, and for us to get to know each other and how my tutoring style might be compatible with your learning. It's also for me to understand your needs so that if you decide to stay with me while learning, I'm able to prepare your workbook and sessions.
