About Heather

Hi! My name is Heather and I am a rising senior at Bowdoin College. I am studying English Literature, and have over 5 years of experience working with children of all ages. I believe that I could be an asset to a high schooler applying to college, as I have recently been through the process myself. I think I could be of most help with the essay portion of college applications, but am eager to help with any parts of the application. I taught a class on college applications at a Youth Center last summer, and am currently a tutor for incarcerated youth at a Juvenile Detention center in Portland, Maine. I remember how overwhelming the college application process can be, and wish to ease stress in any way that I can. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity and access to a higher education.

About the lesson

I am about to graduate from college with a Bachelor's Degree form one of the top liberal arts schools in the country, and am currently immersed in rigorous literature classes myself. I am able to tutor any level of reading/writing, and believe that everyone can be a good writer and reader if they are given the right skills and opportunity. I have a patient and sympathetic personality, and have had success in the past getting through to students from a wide range of backgrounds and reading/writing skills, including students who are incarcerated and students with physical and mental disabilities.
