About Saffy

Hi! I'm studying English Literature, mainly because I absolutely love understanding what makes stories and writing great and getting involved in the critical debate. I've been tutoring GCSE and A-Level students since my second term at university and have built up experience, resources, and plenty of positive feedback; I've helped numerous students, all with different strengths and weaknesses and educational backgrounds. Since starting university I've regained a love of studying, mainly because I get to read and talk about all sorts of topics with likeminded people who are as passionate them as I am.For me, having that discussion - getting to share ideas, ask questions, and get feedback - is essential when trying to study almost anything and so I intend to provide a chance to discuss the topics you're struggling with. I achieved a lot in a variety of subjects at GCSE level, which put me in a good position to keep striving for success in further education - so learn from my experiences! Doing my Extended Project Qualification in six months while keeping up with A-level work and revision also taught me a lot about organisation, time mangement and motivation. Working as a teaching assistant at a languages school, volunteering in girlguiding, starting a bookclub and just helping out me friends means I've also had lots of practice at working with people who think in all sorts of different ways and finding an explanation or a way to start a conversation which suits them. I look forward to sharing ideas, answering your questions, and offering feedback!

About the lesson

My sessions will be based around what you need. We'll focus on some of the topics you're interested in - because without an interest in anything you're studying, how will you improve? - as well as the ones you need help with. If there's one thing I've learned through my time at school and in university, it's that there's never a shortage of ways of learning so we'll find a mix which works for you. We can do past papers, discuss essay ideas or how to approach certain types of problems, go through notes, and talk through any aspect you don't understand. I'll give you examples of how I would approach a problem and then let you have a go, and give you detailed feedback afterwards. For visual learners, there'll be lots of diagrams - if you're like me and like reading things, there'll be lots of that, but I'll condense notes as much as you need to help you revise. Essentially, our first discussion will be me figuring out what you need and we'll go from there!
