About William James
Hiya! I’m William. I’m a current undergraduate (final year) doing a double major in English Media Studies and Creative Writing, plus a minor in Pop Culture and Performance, at AUT. I have lots of experience with primary and above kids!
If there’s one thing I remember about school, and from working as a volunteer teacher aide, it’s that kids find English boring. Essays suck, creative writing is too hard, and you don’t even get to watch movies you actually like.
I want to change that. If you find the right focus, English becomes a lot of fun! It opens pathways to any number of careers in industries like film and media, journalism, digital content creation, writing and publishing, and lots more. Essays become interesting ways to learn about the movies and books you love, creative writing isn’t a chore anymore. I can help you discover what you’re missing.
Or I could just help you get those credits to pass the year ;P

I like to use a unique, relaxed approach to make English studies a lot less scary for any student primary age and above, with a focus on targeting the things that they have the least amount of confidence in.
I generally like to work with a lesson of no less than 1.5 hours (with reasonable breaks) to ensure the student gets the most out of their time, and I make sure to employ a variety of learning techniques so that the student finds each lesson new and fresh (and to discover what kind of learning technique works best for them).
