About Barbara
I am a TEFL Professional and have been teaching for many years. My passion for developing people has driven me to gain the 150-HR TEFL certificate as well as a 30-HR Teaching IELTS Preparation Course.
I enjoy working with different personalities, the laughter that easily flows when a tongue twister challenge is set and their sharp wit when playing games. My classroom is vibrantly colourful, full of fun and toys. I am patient, dedicated and love being part of their journey to success.
I am passionate about animals, love trial and road running. I have run 5 Comrades marathons which is a testament to my dedication and hard work I put into every aspect of my life, learning and teaching.
I am absolutely addicted to coffee and chocs, enjoy a good movie, when I have some down time, and reading!!
I used to hide in bathroom to finish a book. I believe that books are the portal to magic.

Teaching Philosophy
I believe in order to be an effective teacher I must focus on student learning and adjust my teaching strategies in response to the pace and depth of students understanding.
I view teaching as an interaction between an instructor and a student, and what the impact of this interaction has on both teacher and learner.
I approach teaching as a studious activity with continual evaluations and adjustments while I maintain focus on student learning and improving my instruction.
By using flexible teaching strategies rather than strict adherence to a particular style I am able to adjust my teaching to match the abilities and knowledge that each student brings to the classroom.
I value communication with students and parents while using reflective practise and authentic assessment and hugely rely on feedback from both.
