About Joanna
After finishing my first-degree way back in 1996 two of my best friends and I decided to get on an airplane and move to Seoul, Korea to teach English as a Second Language. That was the beginning of my beautiful life of travel and living in Asia for the next eight years. My home base full of friendship from people around the world became Taipei, Taiwan. My mother came for a visit and was treated like a queen by those friends. It was the time of her life, and relief to see the life her only child was living. I loved teaching and learning the intricacies of the only language I knew, had been reading, writing, and speaking my whole life.
Upon my return from Asia I enrolled in my second degree, a Bachelor of Education majoring in English with gusto. I enjoyed that two years so much as I was there with purpose, had experience, and was older. I had a one term contract with Anglophone South School district, a leave, after graduating. I had as great an experience in those classes as I did during my practicum.
Just a few years later I moved to Montreal where I also got a job teaching English as a Second Language for two years before moving back to the East Coast.
English as a subject in our regular school systems, or as Second Language has been my focus for most of my adult life. It has been something I have thoroughly enjoyed. I look forward to the opportunity to see what your program offers its students, and entails from a teaching perspective.
