• Can you tell us about your first experience using a computer?

  The first time I got to use a computer was in middle school way back when. The course was called "Technology" and it was an elective. We got to play games on the Windows 95 operating system. My favorite two games to play during the class were the original Sim City and Microsoft Flight Simulator 95. The reason this experience is relevant is that it left an impression on me that we can accomplish great things as a civilization. I wanted to know the ins and outs of, "How is this even possible?".

• What is the technological evolution that has marked you most and what will be, in your eyes, a turning point in this field?

  The late model advancements of artificial intelligence would have to be the greatest mark on me. Although rudimentary artificial intelligence has been around for quite awhile, the newest breakthroughs are revolutionizing the tech industry and carving an interesting future. Self driving technology, automated chat bots, and overall voice automation have become staples in the field. I am excited to see this technology make a hard turning point into personal flight. I see this being just beyond the current horizon and a reality in the near future.

• Explain your expertise, your interest in it and, more broadly, its importance in the computer world.

  The art of computer programming. Programming isn't just about banging keys and typing a bunch of 1's and 0's and what not. It is more of a personal reflection of your inner creativity. In just 4 years of practice I can do things that I never imagined were possible. Ever wondered what it would feel like to rule the world, lol? Well, I experience that everytime I dive into personal projects. Specifically, building 2d games or even text based games. I control the story, I control everything in the game, so it's a wonderful feeling. Even better when other people enjoy your creations as well, it brings a sense of satisfaction that cannot merely be expressed in words. All of these things are important and relevant in the computer world, because everything we contribute as a whole leaves a lasting footprint in the digital world.

• Do so-called 'visionaries', such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg inspire you or do you have other role models?

  No, I do not gain inspiration from these visionaries. The reason being is they were likely at the right place at the right time when they found their way. Some of them were deceptive to their friends in order to gain an advantage. A programming role model of mine would be a lesser known "mainstream" infamous person. The reason I admire this person is that even through disability he found a way to do what he loves and do it well. He was extremely talented and faced a tragic end, I will personally never forget the work he brought to the field. This man's name was Terry Davis. Look him up sometime and you'll notice that he created his own operating system called TempleOS which had a built in flight simulator and many graphics all of his own. He accomplished this masterpiece all on his own within I believe 2 years. Just to put this into perspective... an operating system of this caliber would more likely be done by about 20 people in maybe 5 years lol. So the guy was a genius..

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  This one is easy lol.. "Rome wasn't built in a day!", and one more just for good vibes.... "What's the fastest way to eat an elephant?? ... One bite at a time". These should be taken quite literally as computer science / programming can be painfully difficult to grasp during the early stages of learning. Just know that if you keep at it, you will eventually succeed and land right where you want to be in terms of programming/computer science.

• What would you say to an uncomfortable person in front of a screen who says that "IT is too complicated"?

  I would immediately recommend that this person just take a deep breath... relax... get up... stretch... go do something else for about an hour and come back to the computer. Sometimes we need these micro breaks to break through barriers. What may be complicated then, may come as a vision during taking a break. This happens to me all the time while working on complex projects.. 9 times out of 10 by the time I return to my computer I solve the problem very quickly. This is because the whole time I was clearing my head I wasn't stuck on just trying one solution. I was able to think freely and think about the problem in a different perspective. Don't be afraid to walk away, it's easy to get burned out without taking necessary mental breaks.

• What are your other passions, related or non-related to computers?

  Music, and automotive technology! I can play every instrument under the sun, I can sing sometimes?? (Karaoke, lol). I can rebuild an automatic hydraulic transmission, rebuild an engine. Modify the tuning in the ECM programming to create more power from an engine. I can fix just about anything.

• What makes you a Superprof in IT?

  I get a great deal of satisfaction in helping others reach their goals. I have extreme patience, and won't let you down as a student. Through each step, i'll explain what is going on in a way that fits your style of learning. I was also a student once trying to find my way in the computer science wilderness. I didn't have any resources available to me to help me progress through the process. I wasn't fortunate enough to have enough money to hire a tutor. I take all this into consideration when accepting a new student. My philosophy is that I want to give back to the community that has given me so much. What I mean by this is that although I didn't personally have the resources, I was able to obtain some through other caring people and organizations in the form of scholarships and grants to help me reach my dreams. I understand these donors didn't have to do anything for me, so this is my good deed to society. I randomly select students (who have tutored with me prior) to offer additional tutoring time/sessions that will not be charged. I want others to get to experience that same warm fuzzy feeling I once had inside when other people extended a helping hand to me on the occasions where I couldn't really afford to take on more financial responsibility.
