About Esme
I'm a practising artist and dedicated art educator based in Suffolk/Essex, currently completing my Master's degree while working full-time as an art teacher. My dual role as both creator and teacher gives me a unique perspective: I understand the technical challenges of drawing from daily practice, and I know how to break those challenges down into learnable steps from years of classroom experience.
My artwork focuses on contemporary portraiture in charcoal and graphite, exploring themes of identity, gender, and representation through classical drawing techniques. My work has been selected for exhibition at galleries including The Open Gallery in Halifax and Fronteer Gallery, and I've submitted to prestigious competitions such as the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Society of Women Artists Annual Exhibition at Mall Galleries, London.
Teaching is genuinely my passion. There's nothing more rewarding than watching a student's confidence grow as they master a technique they thought was beyond them, or seeing their face light up when a drawing suddenly "clicks." I've taught students of all ages and abilities—from complete beginners discovering the joy of mark-making for the first time, to advanced students preparing professional portfolios.
My teaching philosophy is simple: everyone can learn to draw with the right guidance, patience, and practice. Drawing isn't a mysterious talent you're born with—it's a skill built through observation, technique, and consistent effort. My job is to give you the tools, feedback, and encouragement you need to progress at your own pace.
I'm patient, constructive, and genuinely invested in your success. Whether you're learning for pleasure, preparing for exams, or working towards a creative career, I'll support you every step of the way.
Let's create something amazing together.
