About Raafik

I am a full-time teacher/musician born and raised in Singapore who has now permanently moved to Malaysia (Selangor). I have more than 20 years of experience in music teaching. I also perform with various senior local artists here in Malaysia.

About the lesson

I am more than glad to teach students learning their vocal/guitar/ukulele from the beginner level all the way up to diploma course. Online notes and materials will be provided. With various exposures and years in teaching, I am able to communicate well with students of different age groups and backgrounds.

I enjoyed teaching Tedd. His choices and understanding with the music selections is mature. Pretty rare to have a person that has the same level of a great selections. Certain part of his singing anatomy is well conditioned. Looking forward to resume more lessons in the near future

Perfect! Raafik is vert knowledgable and clearly laid out options for learning guitar and vocals. My daughter has some guitar experience, and had plenty if questions. He was able to answer them all gracefully. It was a very promising first class!

When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?
I had developed my passion for music ever since at the age of 10 years old. Apparently the guitar was my favourite instrument back then.
Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?
I am currently listening to jazz rock bass line as its music knowledge intrigues me.
Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.
An idea would be Indian Carnatic music. It is due to their complexity on both rhythmic as well as its melody
What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?
I would personally think it is singing because some may or may not achieve attaining the "whistle notes register"
What are your keys to success?
Strong determination.
Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.
Unfortunately they have all passed on. First I would go for Michael Jackson for his incredible Vocal energy. Secondly it would be Jimi Hendrix for his amazing guitar works and idea. Last but not least, Mozart for his exceptionally beautiful composition.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.
This might be funny story.... A friend of mine wanted to drop out of the music institute as he had dilemma to choose between the music and the finance course. He is contemplating as to whether could he ever live his life doing finance. I gave a powerful advice that changed his life to be a successful composer to this very day. "With every air we breath in and that the heartbeat is already a rhythmic notion. Every speech and sound that resonates from our vocal cord and into our ears are melody. That's the core of lives."
