About Eden

Hello! I am a violin teacher with over 4 years of experience teaching more than 200 students of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of prior experience. Violin teaching is something I approach with both deep technical knowledge and genuine musical passion, and I try to convey both dimensions in every lesson — giving students not just the technical tools they need but the musical inspiration and understanding that make those tools worth developing. I cover the full range of violin technique from the most basic foundations through to the most advanced demands of the concert solo repertoire. I prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity grade examinations at every grade, for music college and conservatory auditions, and for the demands of orchestral and chamber music performance. I also teach adult learners, returning players, and students with no formal examination goals who simply want to play the violin as well as they possibly can. I am a patient and encouraging teacher who nevertheless holds high musical standards for every student. I believe that high expectations, communicated with warmth and support, produce the fastest and most enjoyable progress, and the results my students achieve consistently confirm that belief.

About the lesson

I teach violin by treating technique and musicianship as inseparable from the very first lesson. Even the simplest open-string exercise can be played with beautiful tone or ugly tone, with musical shape or without it, with attention or without attention — and from the beginning I ask my students to play everything with musical intention, because the habit of musical attention is what separates the finest players from the merely technically proficient. My technical teaching covers all the essential foundations: instrument and bow hold, basic bow technique and tone production, intonation, left-hand frame and finger placement, and rhythmic accuracy. I address all of these carefully and patiently, with particular attention to the physical freedom and ease that are both more musical and more sustainable than tense, effortful technique. I teach scales, arpeggios, and technical exercises alongside repertoire throughout, always explaining the connection between each exercise and the musical benefits it produces. I prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity grade examinations at all levels, as well as for conservatory auditions and for orchestral and chamber music performance. I also teach students who are playing violin purely for pleasure and personal development, and for whom the formal examination structure is not relevant. For each student, whatever their goals, I bring the same level of care, patience, and musical seriousness to every lesson.
