About James

Having finished my degree in History from Oxford in 2017, I presently work as a History and Politics teacher in Central London. I available for tutoring in History and Politics and related Humanities subjects on evenings and weekends. I have been in teaching for 4 years in a number of different schools, teaching a wide variety of students including more able and SEND students. My approach is down-to earth, direct, and hands-on: I get straight into the subject matter, with plenty of tests and quizzing to ensure comprehension and understanding. I can teach my subjects from A-level downwards, and can also help prepare for Oxbridge interviews, having had my own not too long ago! I am available for online tutoring sessions as well as face-to-face sessions in person, and can prepare lessons in advance for those who request it.

About the lesson

Lessons are as I teach in my classroom: plenty of direct and helpful guidance with opportunities for extended reading, scholarship, and writing, and for students to develop their independent thinking and share their opinions. Lessons generally last 1-2 hours dependant on topic.

I have worked in education for 5 years, starting as a teaching assistant before joining Teach First and becoming a fully qualified teacher in 2020. I have worked in a number of different schools with varied student bodies, teaching to a wide variety of needs and ability levels. I currently teach full-time, teaching History KS3-5, and A-Level Politics.
