I am a qualified and experienced primary school teacher who is committed to ensuring that the children I tutor become confident and successful learners. I have enjoyed 15 years guiding early readers and writers of a range of ability (Early Years and Key Stage 1) towards reading and writing proficiency through structured, high-quality phonics teaching to a love of reading and writing.
I understand that all children progress at different rates and whether your child needs extra support to catch-up, has an additional need which requires specific care and support; if they are ready to make a leap to the next step or enjoy the challenge of reading comprehension and creative writing, I adapt tuition to meet their needs.
I use an effective systematic, synthetic phonics teaching programme that follows clear, structured activities which children pick up quickly and know what to expect, maximising time spent practising skills. Amongst a range of activities, children practise skills with decodable readers and writing dictated sentences. As the rate of reading becomes automatic, more focus can be placed on comprehension towards reading fluency.
