About Hong Yi

Hi! I'm Hong Yi, a passionate drummer who enjoys helping others discover the joy of playing the drums.

I achieved RSL Grade 7 Drum Kit with Distinction and am currently working towards RSL Grade 8. Alongside my musical journey, I hold a Bachelor's degree in TESOL, which has given me a strong foundation in teaching and communicating effectively with students of different ages and learning styles.

Whether you're a complete beginner, looking to learn your favorite songs, or preparing for RSL examinations, I'm here to help you build confidence behind the drum kit. I believe learning should be enjoyable, encouraging, and tailored to each student's individual goals.

I'm patient, approachable, and committed to helping every student progress at their own pace. My aim is not only to teach you how to play the drums, but also to help you enjoy the learning process and develop a lifelong passion for music.

I look forward to helping you start your drumming journey!

About the lesson

I believe every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to your goals, whether you want to learn the drums as a hobby, play your favourite songs, or work towards RSL Drum Kit exams.

My teaching philosophy is simple: build a strong foundation first. We'll focus on the essentials such as proper technique, timing, stick control, coordination, and rhythm before progressing to more advanced grooves, fills, and different musical styles. By mastering the basics, you'll develop good habits and improve much faster in the long run.

Lessons are fun, relaxed, and hands-on, with plenty of opportunities to play rather than just learn theory. I'll adapt the pace to suit your progress and provide constructive feedback every step of the way. A typical one-to-one lesson lasts 60 minutes.

I achieved RSL Grade 7 Drum Kit with Distinction and am currently working towards Grade 8. Alongside my drumming experience, my background as a TESOL graduate has equipped me with effective teaching skills and the ability to explain concepts clearly and patiently.

My lessons are suitable for complete beginners and intermediate students of all ages (around 8 years old and above). Whether you've never touched a drum kit before or want to take your playing to the next level, I'd be happy to help you on your drumming journey!
