About Claire

During my career, of 15 years as an English teacher, I taught a range of exam boards at both GCSE and A-level: WJEC, Edexcel, i-GCSE although I have taught the AQA spec. for the last 11 years.
I have also been lucky enough to gain some experience in teaching English as an Additional Language at Primary level and Business English to industry professionals.
Alongside my teaching ability, I feel that my dominant skills are patience, clear communication and the ability to create a safe learning environment where students feel they can make mistakes in order to learn more effectively. I feel passionately about imparting knowledge with students and supporting individuals who need that little bit more guidance. It truly is the best feeling to be part of that 'lightbulb moment' with students when suddenly a skills or task makes sense. It's definitely one of the best parts of the job, and an element made all the more achievable through tutoring.

About the lesson

Lessons will be an hour long and I'm happy to create sessions and resources to adapt to the learners' requirements whether that is skills or learning need focused.
For key stage 3 learners (years 7-9) I'm happy to create lessons which support a text which is being studied in school; develop sessions which focus on specific skills development or help support homework.
For key stage 4 learners (years 10-11) I'm able to support the learning of key Literature texts; teach essay skills; advise on revision techniques and help create revision resources; teach exam strategies, mnemonics and timing for AQA English Language and Literature; provide exam and essay feedback.
For key stage 5 learners (years 12-13) I'm able to support the learning of key Literature texts; teach essay skills; provide exam and essay feedback for AQA English Literature spec.
