About Alex
I have been a teacher and a tutor for over 10 years and love being able to inspire students to feel passionate about English as a subject. It is incredibly rewarding to see students grow in confidence, realise their potential and unlock their futures.
Sometimes, exams and learning can feel overwhelming and difficult, but with the right guidance and support from me, students can feel empowered and confident in their study of English.

I am an experienced, friendly and passionate English tutor and teacher who has worked for over 10 years in grammar, international, independent and state schools, alongside tutoring and examining.
I have taught English Literature and Language across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, and succeeded in helping and guiding students to achieve their potential. I am an examiner for a variety of GCSE and A Level curriculums and exam boards, including English Literature and English Language AQA, Edexcel, Cambridge, the IB and Eduqas, which has enabled me to focus my teaching on the specific requirements for these exams and assessments. Further to this, my experience in both the grammar and independent sectors have equipped me with the skills and understanding needed to coach students through 11+ and 13+ entrance exams.
I have a degree in English Literature and a PGCE in English teaching for 11-18 year olds from Canterbury Christchurch University.
I have a creative approach to my teaching of English, and always try to appeal to the passions and interests of each individual student by harnessing their individuality and empowering them to have confidence in their skills and abilities. I have a wide range of experience with high attaining students, and also lower attaining students who require a little extra in terms of support, and pride myself on my ability to find ways to make the curriculum accessible and attainable. I also have extensive experience with SEN students, and students for whom English is not their first language, and have developed strategies and support resources to ensure that these students make progress and fulfil their potential in English.
