About Forbes

I have extensive experience of tutoring over the last 8 years, helping students improve their English generally or academically and also preparing for exams, including GCSE/IGCSE &, A Level English Language and Literature, IELTS and other English tests. I currently work as head of EAL (English as an Additional Language) at a top London private school, where I design materials, courses and teach the top-class results speak for themselves. I am also an examiner for Pearson/Edexcel (IGCSE ESL) and CIE (IGCSE English Literature) and fully aware of the mark scheme requirements for other boards and tests. I am a DELTA qualified (UCL) native speaker EFL/ESOL teacher with over 8 years’ experience in English teaching, management and examining. I have management experience as Head of Department, Senior Tutor and Assistant Director of Studies. I am experienced in teaching exam preparation classes (inc. IELTS, FCE, BEC and TOEFL), English for Academic Purposes (EAP), Business English, Callan Method. I have experience with students from a wide range of backgrounds and am happy to come up with a bespoke course for you. I can even assist with a specific piece of coursework, dissertation or research in English. There are many things that I can say about the many hours spent with Dan. To be brief, I could say that what was most useful for me was:
1. Writing my first CV in English
2. Preparation for my application to university (Personal Statement, Interviews)
(he strongly supported me during the whole application process, allowing me to be successful)
3. Preparation for IELTS

At the beginning I didn’t have any idea of how to approach this work, which seemed huge and very difficult hurdles for me, but at the end I felt really confident with my capacity to be able to achieve these three things, and satisfied with the work done.

We also addressed some personal and studying problems (such as overthinking and studying methods) and being conscious of my good points; and he gave me various other guidelines that have been useful for my life; so the work with him has also become an important part of my growth path.

And the lessons were very enjoyable, I laughed a lot!

Forbes was my first English teacher when I came to England to do my master. In that time, I was not able to speak English, and also I was so shy to speak as well. As an international student, the key point to improve English level is that not being shy and not afraid of making mistake. He taught me all these, and he always supported me through my learning process. Some English lessons could be boring like learning the propositions for me.
