About Lauren
I’m a qualified English Lecturer based in Macclesfield, with a PGCE, QTS, and over a decade of experience supporting learners from KS3 to KS5, as well as adults working towards Functional Skills qualifications. My approach is rooted in empathy, trauma-informed practice, and a deep belief that every learner deserves to feel safe, heard, and capable. I tailor each session to the individual — whether they’re building confidence, preparing for exams, or returning to study after time away. Lessons are typically 60 minutes and combine clear learning goals with space for discussion, reflection, and progress at your pace. I’ve worked in both mainstream and alternative settings, and I specialise in supporting learners with anxiety, SEN, or disrupted education. As a qualified English Lecturer with a PGCE and QTS, I offer personalised tutoring in English Language, Literature, and Functional Skills for learners from KS3 to KS5, as well as adult learners working towards Level 1 and Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications. My teaching is rooted in trauma-informed practice, meaning I create a safe, respectful environment where learners feel heard, supported, and empowered to take risks in their learning. I use a student-centred approach, adapting each session to the learner’s goals, confidence level, and preferred learning style. Whether we’re tackling exam technique, building literacy skills, or exploring texts, I focus on clarity, encouragement, and progress. Lessons typically last 60 minutes, though I offer shorter or extended sessions depending on individual needs. I incorporate a mix of: - Active questioning and discussion - Scaffolded tasks and modelled examples - Confidence-building strategies - Clear feedback and reflection time With experience teaching in both mainstream and alternative settings, I’m skilled at supporting learners with SEN, anxiety, or gaps in education. I also bring safeguarding expertise and a background in advocacy, which helps me connect with students who may need a little extra reassurance or flexibility.
