About Kyla

I am an English Teacher. I have taught in two countries. South Africa and the UK. I have tutored High School and Primary School. I have taught and built up English skills in the UK and worked with refugees building up their Functional English. I Have a TEFL and TESOL qualification. I'm a qualified Teacher and studied English as a major subject at University. In South Africa I worked as a remedial teacher building up learner's, reading, writing, language and speaking skills. I taught Drama and Public Speaking. I ran workshops in schools. I have also tutored Learners from age 5 -18. I have 10 years as a teacher(8 years as a tutor) I have also taught English to adults as a Second language. I have run my own aftercare, as well as, worked as a home school tutor to 15 learners, using CAPS, IEB, and Cambridge International curriculum . I have worked with multiple cultures, ages and levels of ability.

About the lesson

I base my classes on the learning needs of the learners. I look at their current level of ability, and where they need to get to. I also make the lessons based on their interests and type of intelligence. I try to make learning easy fun and manageable. I also focus half of my lesson on building gaps in their skills vital for their understanding. I also try to teach through an experiential approach. For example for Talking about the weather we fist talk about hot and cold. They will make jelly using hot and cold water. The learner will feel hot and cold things, extend it to hot and cold weather, things you wear and do in hot and cold weather. Then create a dialogue talking about the weather between two friends then they create an oral on hot and cold things. They make a story book about hot and cold weather. High school we will dress up and act out plays, or do interactive tasks using teen magazines or their favorite music artist. Love working with children, but I have worked with adults as well.
