About Denise Ockey

I have been teaching and tutoring students for over 20+ years. I have tutored students of all ages and educational backgrounds. What sets me apart from other tutors is that I can relate to them in a way that helps them learn because I have been doing this for many years. My tutoring goes beyond the basics of the subject and includes vital skills that are necessary to know such as note-taking, time management, and test-taking.

About the lesson

I have a Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis in Organic Chemistry. I have written a dissertation, several professional publications, and a couple of patents. I know the value of having strong communication skills, and I bring those values to each session I teach.

I have a strong background in writing and grammar. I approach teaching English with a strong emphasis in the basics. Grammar is not such a mystery to the student the way I teach it because I teach grammar. I start with the parts of speech and continue with punctuation based on the parts of speech.

Being able to write a good essay is extremely important for getting into college and doing well after school. I teach the parts of an essay and how to organize these parts into logical, well-written essays.

My online tutoring sessions are designed to give the student an online experience that is as close to in-person as possible.
