About Charlotte

I am a fully qualified teacher for English and German (GCSE and A-level) and have been teaching privately and in schools for over 20 years with experience across a range of exam boards, both in the UK and internationally. I have worked as an examiner for UK exam boards since 2011 and bring this professional insight to my teaching.

Whilst English is my current teaching subject, I also lead public speaking and German as a foreign language as extra-curricular activities. I speak German and English fluently. In the classroom, I am considered enthusiastic, fun, dynamic and energetic, and my students appreciate my strong subject knowledge, a high level of challenge and swift constructive feedback, which I give both verbally and in writing.

I have worked internationally at senior management level and previously taught at a secondary school in Surrey for nine years. From 2009 I jointly led a successful English Department, graded “outstanding” in all areas by Ofsted in September 2011.

Furthermore, I completed a Master’s degree in Education in 2013 through the University of Chichester. My areas of specialism are, among others: creativity, languages and developing confident writers.

I am a professional marker for two major UK national examination boards, which has enabled me to understand how to get top grades for my students. I currently assess GCSE English Literature, but I have also marked the Language specification.

I enjoy running, cycling and being active outdoors. I read widely, dabble in some creative writing of my own and enjoy spending time with family and friends. I am friendly, flexible, inspired by learning and, as, much as possible, want to know “everything about everything”.

About the lesson

My teaching method is collaborative and interactive, always seeking the highest challenge through questioning. You will be given starter tasks to challenge your thinking and already apply the skills for a particular task, e.g. analysis, comparing, grammar-related. To explore language you will experience various perspectives as a reader AND writer to gain a full understanding of how particular features of language are used for effect.
