About Valentin
My name is Valentin. I'm a french native speaker who was born and raised in the east part of France. I've been living in Montréal for almost seven years now. Holding a Bachelor's degree from the University of Québec in Montréal and currently achieving my master in Didactique du Français langue seconde, I love using my free time and creativity to create pedagogic material, teaching my mother language, sharing my heritage and discovering other cultures.
I'm interested in linguistics (the scientific study of language) and ludopédagogie (learning through play). As a French second language teacher for several educational institutions ( Dawson college, McGill, CLC), my clientele is composed of various profiles, such as :
• Newcomer adults who have French basics skills and want to improve it.
• Learners who wish to improve their self-confidence
• Students who prepare the TEF or TEFAQ (test d'évaluation du francais pour l'accès au Québec) in order to apply for permanent residence.
• Professionals who want to consolidate knowledge, practicing French oral or improve business French to maximize career opportunities.

You don't know how to identify your shortcomings ? No problems ! I will be able to get an objective understanding of your language level, help you prioritize the skills most beneficial / necessary for you to learn, design your personnal course plan so you get the most out for your classes.
THE COMMUNICATIVE APPROACH
My approach give to students the opportunity to learn and practice conversation and communication technique. Classes are meant to cultivate spontaneous interaction. We only learn essential grammatical structures in order to use them in a real life context. Each class is divided into three parts and each part is adjusted to match the specific learning needs :
1. Vocabulary Building / Fluency : beginners work on vocabulary and pronunciation. Higher level students shift more to fluency (like preparing and presenting a topic using acquired skills).
2. Skills Acquisition / Accuracy : learn or review essential grammatical structures, natural expression or/and conversation technique. In this part, I’m working to eliminate each student’s error.
3. Skills Practice / Application : apply your skills in unfamiliar situations to build vocabulary and confidence (whether by discussing, debating, interviewing or doing role-plays). For beginners, apply your skills in led activities based on real life context.
At the end of the class, I give you a constructive feedback and facultative homework to do for our next meeting. Also, I provide monthly progress report

• Displacement only in Montréal, close to a metro station.
• Courses takes place at your home, your workplace or the nearest library.
• Skype class (or the platform of your choice) is also available.
• You can invite someone for 10$/h extra.
• Include homework, correction and monthly progress report.
• Methods of payment : cash, interac e-transfer, credit card.
• Additional fees for pedagogic material (if applicable).
• All prices include taxes. Note that if you pay a minimum of 20 hours upfront, you have 10% discount :
$35 : 1h class | $50 : 1.5h class | $65: 2h class.
