About Calam
With five years in journalism under my belt, I offer a unique perspective on tutoring. I know what it's like to use your English GCSE to develop a career, having gone on to study English Language and Literature myself at university, and subsequently gaining employment in an industry that requires the kind of skills you'll develop while studying the discipline. I’ve spent the past half decade working at various newspapers across the central belt of Scotland, having moved there from London in 2017. I’ve turned freelance this year, and have picked up work as a freelancer for newspapers and have done editing work for a project by artists and researchers at a German university that involved editing texts and webpages for their website launch. I’m looking to diversify my career by picking up more tutoring work as helping others to learn has always been something that’s motivated and inspired me. As well as professional experience in an industry where writing is of the utmost importance, I also have experience teaching the English language to people from other countries, having trained as an English language teacher following my university studies and gaining a CertTesol from Trinity College London. I taught adults at the TEFL Academy in Bloomsbury Square, London, and also taught secondary-school aged pupils from all over Europe at a summer school at Roehampton University. When I chose my A-Levels, I chose English because I loved literature. I know how a good book can change a life, and I'm still an avid reader now. I also write fiction, and am hoping to publish my first novel soon. This is one of the joys of studying English, and I hope to share that joy with you. I offer tailored English tutoring for GCSE, A-Level, and university students, adapting lessons to suit each learner’s needs and goals. I hold a degree in English Literature and have one year of experience supporting students aged 14 and up.
