About Edward
My goal as a tutor is to be no longer required by the student at the end of the tuition period. I strongly believe that a child learns best, not when they are taught just the information required to pass exams, but when they are actually taught how to learn. This is often overlooked in today's education. My approach to the school syllabus allows for the student to progress through all the learning requirements set by the school, but also teaches them the structure and methodology of learning itself, a skill that pays dividends across the board, especially when it comes to University. Teaching a child to learn can mean showing, not telling, it can mean allowing mistakes to be made so that they can be learnt from but most of the time it simply means not being overbearing learning together with the student. As with everything in life, things are always more fun when you are good at them. Learning is no exception. I specialise in English, but I also teach French and other subjects. Edward volunteered with Action Tutoring as an English tutor at two schools and was a great help to the pupils he worked with. Edward is a reliable, personable and conscientious tutor who relates well to his students.
My daughter was predicted a grade D for her GCSE English exam and was particularly struggling with her coursework. Enter Edward! He sort of threw the rule book away started from scratch with her which was exactly what she needed, especially with her creative writing. She progressed quickly under his supervision and he handled her mood swings very sensitively. He is an excellent tutor and I would throughly recommend him to any parent whose child is struggling to get to grips to English. You should also take the time to talk to him about his ideas on education as he has many interesting thoughts!
