About Kayla

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology and an MBA, along with several years of experience tutoring, mentoring, and working with students in both academic and professional settings. My background includes science, research, mathematics, and education, which allows me to bring both strong subject knowledge and a practical approach to learning.

I have always enjoyed helping students work through challenging material and reach the point where something finally clicks. I know that struggling with a subject can quickly affect a student’s confidence, so I aim to create a patient, encouraging environment where questions are always welcome and mistakes are simply part of the learning process.

My tutoring style is adaptable and student-focused. I take the time to understand how each student thinks and learns, rather than expecting everyone to follow the same method. Whether a student needs help catching up, preparing for an exam, completing coursework, or strengthening their overall understanding of math and science, my goal is to help them feel more capable and confident in the subject.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is centered on helping students build real understanding and confidence, not just memorize steps or formulas. I usually begin by asking the student to explain what they understand so far and walk me through how they would approach the problem. This helps me see exactly where they start to get stuck.

From there, we work through the difficult part together. I use different explanations, examples, visual approaches, and problem-solving methods until we find the one that makes the most sense to that student. I believe there is rarely only one way to explain something, and sometimes a student simply needs to hear or see the concept differently for it to click.

A typical lesson includes reviewing the topic, having the student attempt problems independently, identifying where confusion begins, and then working through those areas together. I also like to have students explain the concept back to me afterward, because being able to explain something in their own words is a great sign that they truly understand it.

What sets me apart is my patience and adaptability. I do not expect every student to learn the same way, and I am comfortable changing my approach as many times as needed. My goal is to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and working through challenging material without feeling judged.
