About Afrina

I am a counsellor, academic tutor, and Research Assistant with a background in psychology and cognitive neuroscience. I work with students across different levels, combining supportive teaching and counselling with research experience to help them build confidence, understanding, and strong academic skills.

My education background is I had a Diploma in Biomedical Science from University of Kuala Lumpur, Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience from University of Nottingham and Master of Counselling from Universiti Sains Malaysia.

I am a research assistant at Universiti Sains Malaysia under School of Educational Studies, registered counsellor at different companies and academic tutor teaching multiple subjects such as Science, Biology, English, Mathematics and Additional Maths.

About the lesson

I adopt a student-centred and structured teaching approach, focusing on helping students understand concepts clearly rather than memorising content. I adjust my teaching pace and strategies according to each student’s learning needs, ensuring lessons are engaging, supportive, and goal-oriented.

I emphasise building confidence, critical thinking, and independent learning skills, especially for students who feel overwhelmed or lack academic confidence. In addition to teaching, I am an active researcher with academic training in psychology and counselling. I provide guidance on research design, literature review, data analysis, and academic writing, and can support students working on assignments, projects, and thesis preparation.

My experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods, including SPSS and thematic analysis, allows me to guide students through both conceptual understanding and practical research skills.

Details

I will charge RM 60 for each hour, for all subjects. However, regarding the transportation cost, if your housing area is 5 minutes from my house, it will be free of charge. However, more than 5 minutes of travelling, I might need to charge for the transportation fees. But, it is negotiable.
