About Kyle

Wigan/Chorley based young, energetic and friendly guitar tutor, also covering bass guitar, drums and keyboard/piano. Available for general music theory lessons too and help for GCSE and A level exams in music.

I began playing instruments at the age of 11, my first instrument was the electric guitar which I knew from an early age that I wanted to play, I took private lessons at home for just under a year and from there on taught myself. I eventually showed a few friends my playing abilities and formed a band with them in school, I then started to teach people how to play some simple songs and some music theory, it soon became apparent that I enjoyed to teach people very much and have had a passion for it ever since. In my past 16 years of playing music I have written hundreds of songs in many different genres using standard band instruments (Guitar, Bass, Drums), electronics (Keyboards, synthesisers) and even orchestral instruments (Cello, Violin, Viola) using music production software. I have also been in several bands over the years and currently play in a covers band as a bass guitarist covering a range of styles from funk to rock to pop to punk to indie. I feel that this is important experience to have, and although this kind of experience can not be taught it is something that shows through in my teaching that other tutors may not have, it also may prove useful to guide my students in the right direction should they wish to make a career out of playing live music or even playing live for extra cash or as a hobby.

I have added a YouTube link of a cover song that I did, if you click on my channel there are several other videos showing my playing abilities from a few years ago, all are metal covers however I am in the process of uploading more songs of different genres and styles.

About the lesson

With a relaxed and logical teaching style, I tailor my lessons to a student's needs and focus on what will help them to reach the next stage of their music theory and practice journey. In my experience I have come across many teaching styles, some of which may have been too pushy or intense, this is not how I believe music should be taught and rather should be progressed on at a steady pace for the student, as if they are learning a new language (which essentially is what music is).

As a qualified music teacher I believe that listening to your students is just as important as them listening to you, I enjoy building new students confidence to a point in which they are able to freely jam along to songs without the fear of being judged on their abilities and ask questions about music theory from the simplest of query to the most unique ideas that come into their head in order to gain as much knowledge as they can from each lesson as well as push the boundaries of music theory and practice to new levels, that will help to shape the kind of musician that they will become.

I offer both home tutoring and webcam tutoring, students in the Standish area that wish to be taught at their own home I do not charge for travel expenses, anybody else out of the area that wishes to be taught at home I charge £5 extra for travel expenses. Webcam based lessons are £5 less however if you are new to the instrument it is advised to take several lessons in person first. I provide bulk lesson offers and also have extra gear available to students that do not have their own instruments at home.
