About Rob

As an experienced secondary school teacher, helping young people engage with my subject is what I do best. Having used my modern foreign languages in different lines of work before teaching (for example translation, interpretation and working within the technology industry), I bring both a practical and up-to-date approach of language use to my lessons. While I have been lucky to have worked in different sectors using my language skills, I have always been sure to back these skills up with academic rigour. I have studied to Master's degree level to ensure that my pedagogy, subject knowledge and processes are up-to-date and effective. Given that I teach classes of 32 all day as my day job, I am well aware that engagement and active interest are crucial to success in learning. As a result, a well-rounded approach is imperative. Sparking interest and planning lessons in an engaging manner both maximise success in learning.

About the lesson

Specialising in Secondary to Post-16 ages, I am able to teach French and Spanish up to A-Level. I hold a Master's Degree in Translation Studies, as well as a First Class Honours Degree in French and Spanish. Further to this, I have studied abroad and teach French and Spanish in a secondary school, both to A-Level with good results and an experienced approach. I am a Subject Leader of MFL, meaning that teaching methodology and the building of a strong curriculum are my strengths. My lessons are flexible in duration depending on the desired outcome. I follow the EPI teaching methodology, meaning that I focus on chunking, repetition of key structures and build difficulty and skills in an interleaved fashion to ensure coverage of key skills. However, lessons must not be an exams factory - interactive and engaging lessons ensure maximum productivity and motivation and my lessons follow this mantra. I am happy to carry these out face-to-face or online. Please be aware, though, that I work full-time in a Secondary School and therefore tutoring times must be outside of these hours.
