About Kevin

I hold a Master’s degree with Merit in Creative Writing and a Master’s degree in English Literature. My own academic journey wasn’t straightforward: I struggled at school and failed my Highers several times before eventually discovering how I learned best and going on to complete two Master’s degrees. That experience has given me a real understanding of students who may lack confidence or feel that academic success isn’t for them.

Before moving into a career in investment, I worked as a tutor for three years with students from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities. I primarily taught secondary-level English, but also supported university students studying subjects including Business Management and Radiology, as well as students for whom English was not their first language.

My approach is friendly, patient and encouraging. I adapt my teaching to the individual rather than expecting every student to learn in the same way, with the aim of building both ability and confidence.

About the lesson

My lessons are relaxed, supportive and tailored to each student. We start by identifying what you want to achieve, then break that goal into small, manageable steps. Each lesson combines explanation, practical exercises and constructive feedback, with a clear plan for what to work on between sessions. I encourage regular, focused study rather than cramming. Most importantly, lessons should be enjoyable: I want students to build confidence, see genuine progress and develop the skills to become independent learners.

If a lesson is proposed, it needs to be accepted within a few hours. After the first introductory lesson, I will be doing around one hour of preparation for the next ones and these will need to be paid for well in advance.
