About Anne-Charlotte

Having endured a mixed relationship with learning the violin from the age of 6, I feel I have reached a point in my career where learning and playing are consistently rewarding. My previous teacher created a space where learning the violin didn’t feel like a race but rather a process that I could take at my own pace, which is an experience I am keen to generate for other keen learners.
The three most important practices that I will incorporate in my teaching are:
1. Guiding students towards repertoire they enjoy listening to - I have found my playing has improved most when learning music I have chosen or expressed interest in
2. Creating frequent short-term goals (e.g. performance opportunities or grade exams) for students so that their learning and progress feel intentional
3. Continuing to advance my own playing abilities and other musical interests outside of teaching to ensure my students feel they are taught by someone who is inspired themselves!

About the lesson

Lesson Focus:

My focus in lessons is to ensure students feel they can use their lessons to get creative, express themselves, and relax! Music for my students should not be made stressful or intense, but rather a source of distraction and an inspiring space away from a busy world.

A typical lesson with me:

I always like to start my lessons with a quick warm-up and conversation about my students' week of practice to get an understanding of where they feel they are, so that I can meet them there and help them improve. I adapt my teaching methods to suit each student individually, depending on their aspirations for learning the violin. As an orchestral conductor, I understand how vulnerable music-making can be, and I always do my best to communicate with my students in a way that feels encouraging to them.
