About Matthew

I am a professional jazz/improvising pianist and teacher. Although I currently live in Melbourne Australia, I was fortunate to grow up and launch my career in New Zealand. I have performed in major venues and festivals across Australasia including Hamer Hall, Wellington International Jazz Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Brisbane Festival and at the iconic Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

About the lesson

My piano/music lessons are highly tailored to the needs of the individual student - if there's one thing I've found over my 10+ years of teaching experience it's that no two students are the same

I have particular specialisation and experience in adult students wanting to return to music study on a more empowered basis than those music lessons they received earlier in their life. Beginners and classically trained pianists wanting to explore jazz/improvisation are also encouraged to get in touch! I have experience in assisting students with diverse mental health and disability needs in getting the most out of their music lessons.

I have a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Piano with First Class Honours from the University of Auckland and have been teaching and performing in Australia and New Zealand for the past 15 years. Lessons typically run for 45mins to an hour. If you are proficient in an instrument other than piano and would like to learn about jazz/improvisation I would love to be of assistance as well.

My lessons are for all ages, but are particularly suited to older teens and adults.
