About Corey

I’m a qualified primary teacher with over four years of experience working in specialist settings, supporting children with a wide range of additional needs. My focus is on early development, communication, and regulation — particularly for children who are non-verbal, pre-verbal, or require high levels of individualised support. I regularly work with children who have EHCPs, and I am confident in planning around their outcomes in areas such as communication, interaction, independence, and self-regulation. I also understand the importance of consistency across school and home, and I’m happy to align sessions with your child’s EHCP targets or existing support strategies. I take a highly collaborative approach with parents and carers — listening carefully to what works (and what doesn’t), and adapting sessions to suit your child’s needs, preferences, and sensory profile. Whether we’re working on early literacy, number skills, or supporting engagement and emotional regulation, I’ll tailor each lesson to your goals. I aim to provide calm, structured, visual-based learning that helps your child feel safe, confident, and successful. Every child deserves to feel understood and celebrated — and I’ll work with you to help make that happen.

About the lesson

Every lesson I teach is built around the individual child. I don’t believe that a single method works for everyone, especially when it comes to children who need a bit of extra support. My focus is on primary-aged learners, including those who are non-verbal, pre-verbal, or who thrive with strong structure and clear visuals. I keep sessions calm, engaging, and highly interactive. I use routines to create a sense of security and combine these with hands-on tasks and resources that match each child’s interests and sensory preferences. You might see me using Widgit-style symbols, visual boards, simple games, and regular check-ins to help learners feel confident and settled. A typical session begins with a visual timetable and a short activity to help the child feel ready. We then move into focused work, which could include early literacy, phonics, number skills, or communication-based tasks. Everything is adapted to suit the child’s pace and ability. If your child has an EHCP, I can tailor our sessions to support specific targets. These may relate to communication, regulation, independence, or interaction, ensuring continuity between home and school. I also support parents who want to set up visuals or routines at home. After sessions, I can provide digital or printable resources if needed.
