About Liew

You can take a look at my website for more details at swimwithhau.

I have been swimming casually for 13 years. As a student myself when I was 11 years old, I understood my own struggles and the struggles of my classmates, and the way we overcame them.

I'm now a swim coach teaching kids from age 6 to adults. I started teaching swimming classes a while ago and found passion in teaching swimming for both kids and adults. I enjoy having fun with students while teaching them the techniques and fixing their mistakes. It brings me great joy to see my students overcome a hurdle and manage to swim by themselves.

Different students have different unique struggles or requirements for swimming, which the lessons will be personally tailored to ensure the swift progressive learning of the student/s. I have experience with teaching kids' swim classes and other classes and have identified and understood the necessary methods to ensure kids understand the lessons and are able to apply the techniques.

Swim classes take 1 hour. Further hours are available, but might be slightly tiring for the student, especially for kids. All ages above 5 are welcome to take the class.

  • What age did you start playing sport? Tell us about this time or moment in your life.

I started playing sports since I was 7 in school. Was into football, basketball, badminton and swimming a little later. Found out I was really into physical activities.
  • What are your favourite sports; those that you practice at a high level, a simple hobby, and a sport that you'd still like to discover?

Not to say a high level, but a hobby of some sorts I would say badminton, where I usually play with a few friends. It became harder for me to engage in other sports that require a group of people. I like running and swimming as well for when I'm looking to do sports by myself.
  • What gives you the motivation and passion to pursue your sport?

My motivation is to keep my body healthy and active. After 12 I rarely had the chance to play any sports which really affected my physical abilities and health. I've always been into physical activities, so I've decided to find and join any casual physical activities as I can find.
  • Do you have a sporting achievement that you're particularly proud of?

The best medal I've received is fourth place in my school's cross country event, although that is almost 14 years ago. Another medal would be the participation medal for Viper Challenge, although there are 1 or 2 obstacles that I couldn't complete. Other than official medals, I've hiked to Everest base camp, tried rock climbing on a vertical mountain, done a few 5km runs and able to swim confidently.
  • How have your achievements and challenges made you a better sportsperson?

I'm not really into sports achievements, but challenges have always been fun to complete. I would say because of the interesting challenges I'm willing to try it out and get experience in it although more often than not the very next day my body will be in absolute pain, but non the less fun.
  • If you had to go for a jog with a famous athlete, who would you choose? And what questions would you ask them?

Probably Nicole Ann David. I'm really interested in how is her life right now and how she came to be in the position she is in. How much training was it and was it ever tough to stay in constant practice?
  • How do you help people stay motivated?

I've always viewed it as a love for a sport. I try to make it fun for them, so every time that they do the certain sport they are reminded of how fun it was when they were learning the sport. Say for swimming, I try to keep it casual and not overburden the student, let them understand that perfection is not required to have fun in swimming. I would play games with them, let them explore the things that they find interesting and really want to learn. I don't give them pressure in their ability to swim, they are learning and improving, and most of the time there is no rush in learning. For students who are looking to be professional, I would say there is not much I can force upon the student, they'll need to find in their love for swimming to be able to practice everyday, to focus and perfect their form and I'll only guide them on the correct path.
  • What makes you a Superprof in sports?

My aim is to make sure my students are able to fall in love with swimming and have fun swimming. I understand there is a group of people that is trying to swim but are not able to learn by themselves. Most will lose the love for swimming when they are unable to learn and improve. I make sure students are encouraged and motivated to confidently swim even if they are not in perfect form or shape, and so they will be able to have fun in the water, not be afraid of it.
