About Derek
I am a dedicated and adaptable educator from New York with a Bachelor's of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Glasgow, Scotland. Over the past two years, I have gained extensive experience as a teaching assistant in Spain, where I taught biology, chemistry, technology, and mathematics to public school students aged 12-16. My role involved creating engaging and inclusive learning environments, fostering both academic and personal growth among my students. Additionally, I worked as a private tutor in Spain, focusing on advancing students' English skills through individualized instruction. My international background and commitment to education make me an ideal candidate for the After School Tutor position, where I aim to continue supporting and inspiring students to reach their full potential.

As a teaching assistant in Spain, I primarily instructed classes at 1st and 2nd year secondary level, equivalent to 7th and 8th grade in the United States. I worked closesly with full-time teachers to create in-depth lesson plans, activities, and individualized support to those students that may have been behind or ahead of the present curriculum. I primarily assisted in the subjects of biology, chemistry, maths, and technology, with occasional classes in history and English as well. In addition, I provided individualized after-school help to those students which asked. In these private after-school classes I worked with my students to enhance their English conversational skills, addressing their personalized needs and bolstering their knowledge and confidence in the language.
