About Cory

I pride myself on being thorough and detail oriented. I will always give my best to help my students do their best!

The most enjoyable part of teaching is seeing your students succeed, especially in a skill they previously struggled with. I believe my years of experience with hundreds of students helps me find the best ways to explain material so that my students can understand it.

As a manager, I believe a big part of my job was to teach. But my traditional teaching career started when I moved to Spain in 2015. I worked as an Au Pair taking care of two children and helping them learn English. I spent the next 4 years teaching English subjects in Spanish High Schools. During this time, I also gave private English classes in person as well as online. In total I have taught over 650 hours to more than 1000 students from 55 different countries. After returning to the US, I have spent the past year tutoring students for the SAT and ACT exams.

I have a degree in Management. This has helped me to define goals and a strategy for helping my team/students reach them. I have also taught English in Spain. In this role, I had to learn how my students learn and detail the class to a wide range of skill levels. Many of my students were preparing for standardized English tests that is very similar to the Reading and Writing portions of the SAT. For the past year, I have been working as an SAT and ACT Tutor.

About the lesson

I think the key to teaching is understanding your students. My goal is to better understand how my students take the exam and find areas they can improve in and then explain the material in a way that they understand.

I have worked with a wide range of students. While preparing my Spanish students for their English exams, I helped students from beginner to advanced levels. As an SAT tutor, I worked with students who initially tested in the 750 range as well as students applying to Ivy League schools. While some of my students struggled with particular sections of the exams, others needed general test taking tips and strategies. Being a good tutor requires you to be able to help your students of all levels and with varying goals.

My advice would be to find a tutor that is committed to you. I would also highly recommend making the same commitment to yourself. My students that have seen the biggest improvements were the ones that did all the additional practice problems and tests.

I recently spent 3 months backpacking through Central America. I had a wonderful time exploring new places, learning about different cultures, and meeting new people from all over the world.

My standard program consists of a weekly 2 hour class for a total of 12 weeks. In my experience, this is an ideal course length. However, the course can be adapted to my students' needs. Pricing is per hour and paid monthly. However, this too can be made to fit what's best for my students.
