About Patrick

I'm an Emmy nominated actor who has appeared in over 200 TV and Films and over 100 Actor Equity productions. I was a regular on 11 series including Seinfeld, Home Improvement, Hill St Blues, Knots Landing and Alice.

i've been a performer (singer) since I was 3 and understand the "biz" and the art of acting as well. It is Show BUSINESS and people who only look for art will not do well seeking a career.

But the love of acting is also an end unto itself and I love working people who JUST want to act!

I started teaching full time in 2001 at ETSU and retired last DEC. While I love teaching, what I am is an actor who "got into teaching"

I have done over 150 Equity (AEA) productions and over 200 SAG and SAG-AFTRA TV shows and films. I also have an MFA in Directing from Temple U in Philadelphia and I taught theater and film for 20 years at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City

About the lesson

Depen ds on what the student wants to do. If this is a "pro" then we will work to get this student work in AEA or SAG-AFTRA productions. If it is a young person "who is not sure" about what she wants then we will do some scenes to try to see what the potential might be.

At ETSU I worked with everyone from Rick McVey who for the last 15 years was a star at The Barter to young people whom I"ve sent on to local theaters and to some who have done Broadway Adam Perry and Allison Guinn and my son James Patrick Cronin (Google him) who is now one of the top ten book readers in the world, having read over 1200 books on Audible and other sites.

Look, if what you want to do is "have fun" and you are young then Jonesboro Rep has some great classes (they did before the pandemic) and so does KTG (Kingsport Theater Guild) and their fees are quite reasonable. I am an established TV/Film guest star and while if what you want is to "have fun" I can provide that but at a higher cost.

I just did Grandpa in You Can't Take It With You at ETSU and two years before I did the same show directed by Chris Hart the son of Moss Hart who wrote the show with George S. Kaufman whose granddaughter was my wife (she was a regular on Happy Days and Wonder Woman) Beatrice Colen until her death in 1999

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Get honest with yourself and be honest about what skills you have. I won't be cruel, but if you tell me you want to be in a Broadway musical and you REALLY can't sing at that level then I will kindly have to say so. If you don't know what your skill set is then take a class, if not with me, then with someone who can advise you as to the next step. If you are under 18 then be clear with whomever is paying for lessons what they are paying for. And don't sign anything until you and the teacher are both clear on what is going to be provided

When I lived and worked in LA I did some coaching and my fee then was 75 dollars an hour (this would be in the 80s and 90s). My friends who currently work in LA and NY charge between 100 and 300 an hour so given my level of achievement 100 an hour would be my rate.
