About David

With two regular instructors and one kids instructor, we cover all ages. But we have had visits from several qualified acting coaches, plus four full time professional Hollywood actors. We have locations in Salt Lake, Utah County and Layton, Utah and connections to talent agencies. Several of our graduates are now working in Hollywood. You can follow us on Utah Actors Academy on Facebook. Most of our classes are only $20 per class, and the first class you attend is free. We also do private coaching.

I was an actor before I was an acting coach. So I enjoy what I have learned in years of doing what I teach.

I've been a professional actor for 30 years. An acting teacher and coach for 20 years. I am also a film producer.

About the lesson

We get new students working on a script with a scene partner on their first visit. We film scenes after several classes of preparation. Our guest instructors, teach such topics as auditioning, voice acting, weapons use and fighting. We also offer horseback riding lessons, several times a year.

I've worked with acting students of all ages. From 7 years old to 70. I've worked with students interested in film, theater, voice acting.

The experience of a film instructor is important because a teacher can only teach what they really know from experience. There are classes that charge hundreds of dollars up front. Utah Actors Academy has teachers who are as experienced and even much more experienced that more expensive courses. They even try to lock you in to expensive contracts and get you credit card info. We teach because we love acting and teaching. We will even give you the first class for free.

I love the Sundance Film Festival and also the many Utah film festivals. Sundance because I'm met and talked to many 'name' actors. The local film festivals give an idea of how much film work there is in this state.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Ask any teacher what their actual experience acting is. Some acting schools hire teachers with no experience acting. Those teachers work from a lesson plan and don't really know how to act.

Details

Classes are $20 per class. Private coaching is $25 per session. We also get people on independent film sets or community theater plays since doing the work is a great educational opportunity.
