About Ely Sonny

I am a Teaching Artist based in San Francisco. I teach drama and acting at the American Conservatory Theater, African-American Shakespeare Company, Cutting Ball Theater, Magic Theater and New Conservatory Theater Center.

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Theater and Performance Studies from the University of California, Berkeley.

I have a certificate from the American Conservatory Theater via the Summer Training Congress.

My background in theatre and performance emphasizes on devise, social justice and political theatre, experimental, and community-based work.

About the lesson

Processes and educational needs are different for each individual based on experience and background. As a teaching artist I tend to provide a more personalized approach for each student, so they can get the most from each session.

First session is meant to identify students' strengths and build on them so to make sure they capture their personal assets. The first session is also meant to identify weaknesses, so future curriculum can be better serve to diagnose and help support students' needs.

As a multidisciplinary artist, I have had the privilege of working with all ages, shapes, and sizes. However, I work primarily with students from K-8 in the theatre. I also coach adults for public speaking, performance, and acting.

For students looking to hire a teaching artist in theater and performance, be sure to look for:

(A) TA who provide and connect civic issues and socially relevant topics of today in tandem to their curriculum. Theater, after all, is meant to mirror the Now.

(B) TA with experience in performance And teaching.
