About Rachel

From Page to Stage I will help you learn how to turn your ideas and inspirations into a quality script then how to realize that into a live performance. I am trained in Creative Dramatics, Performing Literature, Improv, Script Analysis, Adaptive Screenwriting, Sketch Writing, Modern Dance Choreography, Costuming, and Directing. I self-produced, costumed, and directed children’s plays, Theatre for Children, and other plays, many of which I wrote or adapted myself. I earned my MA in Theatre and Dance from Missouri State University where I currently teach Intro to Theatre. I also direct the Grab Bag Variety Show and perform on IM PRO V at Springfield Improv.

I started teaching in Grad School to help pay for my education, then was a Para for Autistic students in the Springfield School District. I was hired as Per Course Faculty at the Theatre and Dance Department of MSU in 2014 where I still work. I have taken side jobs as a Drama teacher for Homeschoolers and taught workshops in Acting, Dance, and Unarmed Stage Combat.

About the lesson

I find out what their interests are, help them develop an artistic obtainable goal, and then devise a plan to help them reach that goal. I help them develop their own artistic voice.

All ages. Youngest was 6 years and oldest was someone old enough to be my mother or grandmother. Some very inexperienced and some very talented but needing direction. I’ve also done Drama Therapy for Autistic Students. I believe everyone has a creative voice inside them, and I enjoy helping them discover and develop that unique voice and help build confidence in it.

Definitely find a teacher or director that is passionate about seeing you succeed, one that helps you feel more confident and comfortable taking artistic risks (clear, bold choices). They should help push you past your comfort zone but not leave you to “sink or swim”. I believe possitive feedback and constructive criticism is key to bettering oneself. They should point out what you are doing well and what you need to do in order to improve.

I am super excited to be writing and directing my own monthly variety show Grab Bag and getting to perform with the all female group IM PRO V at Springfield Improv. Last summer, I was allowed to book one of our shows for The Traveling Symphony there that I self-produced. It was a hit, and now I’m thinking of what my next self-produced production will be.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I suppose time and availability about a certain project. I’m not sure I understand the question. For my college students, I’d say check the syllabus first then ask if they can’t find the answer. Otherwise, when in doubt, ask. It does no one any good to assume anything. You’ll only gain answers if you ask for them.

I don’t. I like to customize my prices based on the student and project at hand. I’m willing to work on a payment plan if installments would help make it more affordable. If I had to set a general price, I’d say $20 an hour per person per class, but if we do a project, we can work out a discounted stipend.
