About Jacob

I have played bagpipes since 2009 and have been teaching on and off since 2012. I am a local Howell, MI alumni and I love sharing this unique skill with others.

I starteds teaching bagpipes in 2012 to the next bagpiper who would play in the local high school marching band. From there, I continued to teach new pipers occasionally.

I majored in Music at Eastern Michigan University and have taught students for a cummulative 7 years. I love teaching, music, and bagpipes and i enjoy the opportunity to share my passion with others. My own bagpipe experience is now 10 years and counting.

About the lesson

For absolute beginners, we start by discussing practice chanters and learning materials that will be needed. Then we begin with learning the notes and slowly work our way into songs, doublings and eventually the bagpipes!

For people who have some experience, we start by evaluating your technique and seeing where we want to improve and where we want to go, whether it is a hobby or competition.

I have taught highschool students, as well as some adults. Bagpiping is truly a hobby anyone can learn and enjoy!

I enjoy many of the celtic/highland festivals around michigan and the midwest area. Often times, you will be able to hear bagpipes throughout the day practicing and performing. Often there is also some informational tents, shops for highland themed regalia or trinkets, and scottish foods. In some cases you may also be able to witness highland games!
