About Eddie

My name is Eddie Perkins, I'm 29 out of Chesapeake, Va and I have been playing baseball since I could walk. This game has been the focal point of my life going on 25+ years, whether as a player or a coach I have never been too far from the ballfield. I am a product of Great Bridge High School (class of 2009) under the instruction of Wiley Lee and his staff. From there, I began my collegiate career at College of the Albemarle where I was a pitcher and first baseman. While there I helped lead the team to back to back playoff seasons earning second team All Conference honors as a pitcher my freshman year, and being awarded the Defensive Player of the Conferemce my sophomore year. Due to my success at COA, I was able to earn a scholarship to Tusculum College, (now Tusculum University) in Greeneville, Tennessee where I spent three years under the instruction of Doug Jones and his staff. When I graduated Tusculum in 2014, I came back to Virginia and within a couple months got right involved with coaching at the high school level as a pitching coach. It was a great learning experience having spent my whole life on the field, now transitioning to being a coach. After two seasons, I left the high school level and became an assistant coach with the 12u Tidewater Horns in 2017. When the 12u season ended I took the position of head coach for the upcoming 11u Horns during that same year. I had the privilege of leading that team to a semi final finish at the Cal Ripken World Series before I had to step away due to my acceptance in the fire academy. Once I graduated the academy in the fall of 2018, I was able to eventually find my way back to the ballfield a year later with the 757 Canes 9u organization. I currently still coach with this team as an assistant/pitching coach. Between my work schedule with the fire department and coaching the Canes, I am almost always at a ball field on my days off. I have a love and passion for this game and I enjoy passing on my knowledge to the next generation. I am an advocate for using video to help instruct players so they can see what they're doing right and wrong. I individualize training plans tailored to the needs of each kid and do not provide cookie cutter instruction. I have programs to improve pitchers mechanics as well as build velocity efficiently. If you are interested I would be more than happy to talk with you and see if we can work something out. Feel free to shoot me an email at (concealed information)

I enjoy seeing the success and improvements of the kids I work with. This game has it's challenges much like most things in life but when I see a kid work hard and achieve a goal he was working towards, that's my happiness. I want to help each kid get to the next level, whatever it may be, and help him have success in doing so. Seeing the hardwork pay off is why I enjoy coaching.

I have learned from and played for some of the best coaches the Hampton Roads area has to offer: Gary Lavelle, Wiley Lee, Sean Townsend, Rob Demara, Mickey Irving, Mark Davis, Jimmy Hunt and Norbie Wilson to name a few. I have taken their teachings and developed my own coaching style that has allowed me to see success working with kids from eight years old to kids at the high school/pre college level.

About the lesson

I start by observing the player as they already are. Whether I'm watching them hit, pitch, or field I watch how they go about their business and learn from them to see how I need to tailor my instruction. Once I know where that players biggest needs are then I can breakdown my instruction and begin chipping away at their inefficiencies to create a more rounded ballplayer.
