About John
I played baseball for 18 years through college. I was a pitcher and and excellent middle infielder primarily 2nd base and shortstop. I coached 10-16 year old pitchers and infielders for 8 years primarily until I had a son. I started working with 6-9 year olds and coaching primarily tobtge 10 yr old age range about 5 years ago. I thouroughly enjoy working with younger players and being able to break down the basic fundamentals of good defense and pitching. I currently coach 7/8 year old Rec ball for GAA Greenbrier Athletic Association and I started a non profit 8U travel Tournanent team from the ground up called the Chesapeake Heat. I base my coaching on proper footwork, basic but very important fundamentals and proper mechanics because without these a player has nothing to build on at the next level. I also want kids to learn while having fun and enjoying being on the baseball field as much as I did growing up. I focus on the strengths a certain player shows immediately and build off of that players tendencies. No player is the same and if you try to teach them all the same instead of teaching and building on that persons instincts and tendencies then you are doing that player a serious injustice. Baseball is a fantastic game and I want to see it played the right way.
