About Mark

I have a lot of insight. I've been the last player cut at tryouts on the high school and collegiate levels. I've played against and trained with professionals. I have missed and hit game-winning shots in tournaments and high stakes games but so have a lot of others. Many people can teach basketball. What makes my service different isn't what I know but how I use all that I've learned to help others reach their fullest potential. My approach is to actively listen to and observing players so that I can provide a realistic assessment of the careful planning it will take for them to reach their goals. I use their ambitions and try to intricately break those goals down into daily doable work. I encourage players to keep the game fun. If anyone should decide to work with me you will develop your weaknesses while refining your strengths. You will improve your levels of confidence, focus, athleticism, and awareness as it pertains to the game of basketball. Consistency and patience is the key to developing your basketball game. You will surely work hard with any decent coach or trainer. You will work smarter with me.

I've done tens of thousands of hours of shooting and dribbling and practicing and playing the game of basketball because I simply love the sport. I also love providing insight to others regarding this wonderful game. I love the feeling of rhythm and control and being able to see a play develop before it happens.

I was once very competitive about basketball. Once my mortality started to set in and my desire to "win" started to diminish it was as simple as finding myself at my park or a gym and seeing a younger person with skill or potential doing something incorrectly or ineffectively and me approaching and sharing what I had learned through my experiences just to offer them a different perspective. Otherwise, I'd be playing pick-up and afterward someone would say "How do you do this or that?" In the last couple of years, I actively began to coach because my son's team needed a coach to volunteer and I parlayed the rapport that I developed in the community where I lived into officiating and teaching and private instruction.

I coached and officiated basketball for the Camarillo, California YMCA. I studied Coaching and Officiating Basketball at Essex County College in Newark, NJ. I grew up and played daily in a thriving basketball town of East Orange, NJ. I played at Clifford J. Scott High School in East Orange, NJ. Between playing competitively, recreationally and practicing with collegiate and professional basketball players and trainers I've amassed over ten thousand hours of basketball experience.

About the lesson

After greeting and talking to learn more about the intentions of my players the very first activity that we'll do is actually play some basketball. It gives me a better feel for how I can best help my players to improve and obtain their goals.

I've coached and mentored novice to experienced players of every age group from Kindergarten through High-School as a coach. I've trained privately with a couple of collegiate and professional players as well.

Be patient, disciplined and adaptable.

I ran a basketball skills clinic for over 300 youths in Camarillo, California this past April at the Camarillo location of the Channel Island's Branch of the YMCA.
