About Chris
I like working with students of all ages and stages. I teach classical (usually using the Suzuki books as a core repertoire plus duets, scales, etudes as needed) as well as jazz, folk and improvisation. I've been playing cello 50 years and teaching it for 30. I play in the Bighamton Philharmonic, Cloud Chamber Orchestra, jazz groups and with singer-songwriters. I am the founder and director of the New Directions Cello Festival, now in its 23rd year.
I like the variety of students and interacting one on one with my students; making the lessons fun and interesting and tailored to each student.
In addition to studying cello performance I also studied the Suzuki Cello method. While I am not a strict Suzuki teacher, I often use the books as a basic repertoire. Then I add scales, etudes, duets, improvisation, fiddling and help students with anything they would love to learn.
50+ years playing and studying the cello. Maasters in Music Performance (cello) from Ithaca College. 33+ years a member of the Binghamton Philharmonic. 3 albums of my music (jazz and Spanish & Latin influenced originals).

I have taught literally hundreds of students of all ages and stages - from 2 1/2 to 90 years old!
Just ask and take a trial lesson.
Concerts are a greater t way to be inspired by music and musicians. Unfortunately, during the pandemic, performances are hard to find. There are some great performances online.
