About Vanya

I am a graduate of the Chinese Literature department of National Taiwan University, and MA in History of Art of the University of York. I have Chinese teaching experience more than 15 years and have completed a Mandarin teaching course. My students included elementary school, high school students and adults. I also taught foreigners and Taipei America school students(they were ABC-American born Chinese) Mandarin. In addition, I have assisted a Korea PhD student to complete his academic Postdoctoral researcher dissertation in Chinese.

I have long had an interest in creative work and received a few literature awards, and have also had poems, prose, and short stories published on newspapers and magazines.

I have a strong and abiding interest in Chinese language and literature. For this reason, I pay close attention to Chinese vocabulary and grammar. I can also distinguish between similar words and phrases, how to use them correctly and clearly.

As a Chinese teacher, I prefer to know students’ ability of Chinese first. Then I get a direction to teach them in accordance with their aptitude. For example, some students need foundation training, others are more advanced. I am open for all level/age students and tend to prefer more specialized and passionate learners, particularly those interested in Chinese culture and literature.

Finally, I know both simplified Chinese and traditional Chinese. I can also teach classical and modern Chinese, such as Chinese writing, listening, speaking, reading, daily conversation, idioms, potery and literary works.

I enjoyed sharing my knowledge of Chinese literature and culture with my students and help them fully understand every aspect of the language.

About the lesson

At the beginning of the course, we will first discuss:

-What are the reasons/purposes for you to learn Chinese?

-What would you like to achieve?

-Are there any martial or textbook you prefer to use? -What is your current level?

-Do you struggling with some difficult points of your studies?

-What type of Chinese you would like to learn and focus on?(For example, Traditional or Simplify Chinese/ Daily Conversion/ Business Chinese/Academic Writing..etc. )

and so on.

We could set goals together and adjust as needed during our lessons or figure out a special way for the courses.
